Winfield Mile, 2018 Results

January 1, 2018

I have run this race for many years and Have been the director for the past 3 years and this year by far was the absolute coldest that i can remember.
With the wind chill in the single digits, i was worried that no one would show but 20 runners and 5 of us volunteers did and we had a great race.
We also had the photographer and writer from Carroll County Times show up for pictures and interviews. That was a first that I can remember for this race.
The race went off without a hitch and as in years past the Arbaugh Brothers were battling for the top spot along with Ryan Staziowski.
This year it was the younger of the Arbaugh brothers Brandon to take the top spot with a 4:46.65 with Ryan Staziowski one second behind and then Ben Arbaugh to finish up the lead group of men.
In the women's division 20 year old Samantha Merkel ran unchallenged and easily won the women's overall with a time of 5:43.78 followed by Tonna Arbaugh who ran a great race with a 6:07.99 finish time.
I want to thank all of the runners that braved the cold today and a special thanks to the volunteers, Liuda Galinaitis, Frank Shaffer, Robert Holt and Kim Muhl for there work while suffering through the cold temperatures. This was a great way to start the New Year, I wish you all the best for 2018!
