Owl 2-Mile Run Results, 2018

Russell, Goffena dominate Owl 2-Mile Track Run

For the second year in a row, the first Twilight Series event was postponed a week due to persistent thunderstorms. Once again, the results will not count in the standings, but participation counts towards the five needed to earn the coveted series premium.

Also for the second year in a row, Rubie Goffena took the women's title by a healthy margin. Fellow teen Emma Kartalia was second for the ladies. Recent teen Valerie White just held off teen Dellaney Georgiana for third. Could-be-mistaken-for a teen Tonna Arbaugh rounded out the top five.

Taylor Russell started lapping runners in the faster heat well before anyone else and was never challenged for the win, just five seconds from going under eleven minutes. Brendan DuLaney was a strong second. Sub-geezer Karsten Brown was third and the last man to finish ahead of Rubie. Spencer Hamblen and Steve Kerzel drafted off of Rubie for fourth and fifth men.

Ages ranged from 8 through 74 in this first of six Twilight Series events. Olivia Stohrer and Jeanette Novak were those athletes, the latter had her second sub-27 minute two-mile track race in as many days. Our official heats were preceded by a special heat for several quick Westminster Track Club runners, which we hope to continue as an annual tradition.

These events do not happen without volunteers. Volunteering also counts as credit towards the five events needed to earn a premium. On Thursday evening we employed the services of Liuda Galinaitis (series director/popsicles), Chris Reese (series director), Joe Loveland (equipment), Vida Callier, Jen Goffena, Dan Replogle, Genice Rill, and Mark Mann.

Next up is the nearly three-mile Hashawha trail run on Thursday, June 14. We promise that it is completely flat, except for all the hills.
